Ashbourne crowned All-Ireland champs

Ashbourne made a rewarding trip to Donnybrook today for the All-Ireland Junior Cup final against holders Enniscorthy and the Meath side achieved a fantastic 22-20 victory despite trailing by 11-12 at the interval.

The game started well for Ashbourne who surged into a 6-0 lead with a brace of Gavin Kennedy penalties, but they were overhauled by the Wexford side and trailed at the break by that one point.

James Rooney scored the Ashbourne try in that opening half after a great surge by Casey Dunne.

Jake Wall added a try in the second-half and Enniscorthy had a player sin-binned but still managed to lead by 20-19 going into the closing minutes.

Ashbourne never gave up and Gavin Kennedy sent over a late penalty to claim a sensational success and take the trophy to Meath for the first time.
