Kellett in contention for overall motorsport award

Young Kells driver William Kellett, a fifth year student at St Ciaran's CS, has been selected as the Young Racing Driver of the Month for August.

The Meath teenager is the fifth 'Driver of the Month' award winner for the 2016 season and he is now a contender for the prestigious Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award and the historic Sexton Trophy.

The 16 year-old scored a win and a third place in the Future Classics races at Mondello Park in August, his best results since he took up circuit racing earlier this year.

William started his motorsport career two years ago in Junior Rallycross,
where he drove a Nissan Micra to a string of podium finishes in late 2014 and 2015.

During last winter, his father Alastair, a well known racing driver and car preparation expert, converted the Micra into racing specification, with a larger engine among other modifications.

William immediately showed his pace by setting the fastest lap in only his second race in April.

Support for the car comes from Dunshaughlin Motor Company, dmc.ie, Mr Gearbox and Mr Clutch, JH Autobody of Dublin and Kellett Motors (Kells).
