Top seven place for Natalya Coyle

Meath's second female in action at the Olympic Games in Rio competed in the Modern Pentathlon on Thursady and last night (Friday) with Natalya Coyle improving on her London 2012 finishing position but still missing out on a medal.

Natalya finished seventh last night, she had finished in ninth place four years ago at her first Olympic Games and this time around the the gold went to an Australian.

'I improved on London and that was my goal - to come out with all personal bests and I've definitely done that so I'm delighted.'

Natalya went into the second day of action in 12th position on 214 points, 48 behind leader Oktawia Nowacka of Poland who ended up with a bronze.

After the swimming she had a clear round in the showjumping - where contestants ride an unknown horse - and moved into sixth before the final run/shoot event.

In the run (800m x 4) / shoot she displayed fantastic determination to hold on to seventh place.
