Sara Treacy 17th in Rio race

After all the drama on Saturday when Sara Treacy made it to the final of the 3,000-metre steeplechase at the Olympic Games after a successful appeal, the Meath woman was in action in the final this afternoon in Rio.

The race was won by a 19-year-old Kenyan Ruth Jebet running for Bahrain in a time of 8:59.75 with Sara Treacy finishing in 17th position in a time of 9:52.7

Dunboyne AC club captain Tommy McDonnell told the Meath Chronicle a few minutes ago that it was tremendous achievement for Sara to have made it to the Olympics and run in the final.

'I was talking to her yesterday and she was badly shaken up after the fall on Saturday, she was very and badly bruised but it was a great achievement to get to the final, she was ranked 39th out of 54 going into the Games,' he said.

'Her attention will now turn to the World Championships in London next year,' he added.

Just like last Saturday, when members of her Dunboyne club gathered in Mulvany's to watch the action and cheer for Sara, they gathered again today to watch the action.
