Moynalty man on Ireland team for Canada

Moynalty man Luke Murphy (pictured) will be heading for Canada this week as a member of the Ireland U-19 team for World Lacrosse Championships.

Luke is a second year science student at NUIG, studying botany, earth and ocean science and German.

Before heading to NUIG he attended St Ciaran’s Community School in Kells and he also played football with Moynalty and rugby with North Meath.

When he arrived in NIUG he was looking for something new and different to try out and liked the physicality, speed and skill lacrosse offered.

He began playing and immediately took to the game. He is now chairman of the NUIG Lacrosse club and captain of the men's team.

In 2015 he was selected as part of the 23-man roster that would represent Ireland at the 2016 U-19 World Lacrosse Championships in Vancouver.

Luke is heading to Vancouver on Sunday next 3rd July with the rest of the Irish squad to begin preparations for the tournament which begins in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia and runs from 7th to 16th July.

The group includes Scotland, Spain and Korea and Ireland will be aiming for a place in the knock-out stages after that.
