Bohermeen AC host Patrick Bell and Nicky Phillips road races on Sunday

Bohermeen AC will host the 31st Patrick Bell and Nicky Phillips Memorial 5km Run and Family Walk on Sunday (29th May) at 2pm with hundreds of athletes expected to take part.

Runners and walkers will participate along with students from 25 schools who have been invited.

The event commemorates the late Patrick Bell who tragically died following a traffic accident in 1985 at the age of 25.

The event also commemorates the late Nicky Phillips who was the mile champion in Meath in the 1930s and he went on to become a mentor to many juvenile athletes.

Online entry for the event is open at www.myrunresults.com with chipped entry for adults at €15 and juniors at €6.

There is also a non-chipped family rate of €20.

Anyone entering the race on the day should do so before 1pm or on Saturday at the Bohermeen Community Centre from 3pm to 5pm.

The Patrick Bell Memorial is now very much a community event with a wide range of people involved from road stewards to locals organising the barbecue.

All participants will be treated to the legendary barbecue after all the running and walking is over.

There will also be turf fires creating what is a very popular aroma for visitors from near and far to savour.
