Focus on local darts - Navan and Duleek

Following the postponement last week of the second round of fixtures in the Navan & District Darts League due to a bereavement, the action resumed on Monday night with the feature event the visit of a talented Round O outfit to Teach na Teamhrach.

The Round O had received a bye in the first round, but they were in top form for their trip across town where they were opposed by Teach na Teamhrach’s best in Mark Carolan, John Tiernan, Flan Fitzpatrick, Curtis Harding, Noel Dowdall, John Lane and Brendan Dowdall.

Ross Clarke was first up for the Round O and found the going tough as Harding took a 2-0 lead hitting 137 and a check out of 79. However, Clarke won the next, but it was only a brief reprieve as Harding closed out the game hitting a 140 on the way.

The pressure was on the Round O for game two and Paul O’Rourke duly delivered against Carolan hitting 140 in the first and checking out on 19 darts. In the second he hit 140 and 180 and for the third and deciding leg started with 180 and 125 checking out in 18 darts.

The third game was a real thriller with Noel Dowdall and Conor Collins each winning twice which put the pressure on both for the deciding fifth game.

Collins won the deciding leg in a close fought game with both players missing doubles in a nervy conclusion.
Lane got Teach na Teamhrach back into contention when he checked out 72 and had an 18 dart leg before hitting 118 in the last leg, but the Round O finished strongly with wins for Mark Costello and Des Keegan.

Costello won his first game impressively, took the second in 19 darts and the third in 21 while Keegan won the first and second checking out 63 and 50 and closed out the match with double four to complete a 4-2 victory for the visitors.

The Round O will be expected to win again next Monday night when they visit pointless Lantern while Old Bridge Inn will also be fancied to account for Teach na Teamhrach.

Maguire’s, Kentstown are the form outfit in the race for the Div 2 title after a 5-1 demolition of Lantern B on Monday night and they will be eager to maintain that form when Tara na Rí visit for the third round.

Lynch’s, Slane will probably pose too many questions for the Lantern B team.

The Lantern A and B teams are propping up the Div 1 and Div 2 tables.
