Over 1000000 for meath gaa clubs

Meath GAA club officials from some 20 clubs are probably waking up this morning with smiles on their faces after the announcement yesterday of the sports grant allocations with St Brigid's and Clonard GAA clubs topping the charts with €123,000 apiece while the news for recently-relegated Walterstown was also positive with a sum of €70,000 allocated.

A wide array of sports were grant-aided and Meath East Fine Gael TD Regina Doherty has said that almost €2 million has been awarded to sports and community clubs in Meath with Ratoath Rugby Club topping the charts with an allocation of €132,000.

'The announcement, which will see €1.8 million in funding go directly to our sports clubs in Meath, is absolutely fantastic news for our voluntary and community clubs,' stated the Ratoath TD.

“Over the last number of months I met with several of the clubs and assisted them in their application for the grant.

'I subsequently met and wrote to Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, on numerous occasions to do all that I could to ensure that the needs of Meath were met,' she added.

Continuing on the GAA theme, Keegan Cup finallists Na Fianna were also on the list of recipients with an allocation of €120,000 while both Skryne and Slane were granted €100,000 each.

Soccer clubs in Meath were also on the list of recipients with Ashbourne Utd allocated €30,000.

Enfield Celtic (€100,000) and Castle Villa (€63,000) were also successful with applications.

The North East Football League (formerly Meath & District League) will receive €121,643 which according to secretary Gerry Gorman is 'great news for our plans to refurbish showers, toilets, source a new mower, the installation of security fencing and dug-outs plus the development of a walking/jogging track.'
