Martin going for big race hattrick at galway tonight

The big race on the first night of the seven-day Galway Festival is the amateur handicap - a race that Meath trainer Tony Martin has dominated for the last two years winning in 2014 with Quick Jack, for Kells owner John Breslin, and in 2013 with Edeymi.

Stephen Clements was on board for both those victories and in the feature race tonight will be on board the Martin-trained Ted Veale, owned by John Breslin also.

Dermot Weld's Sierra Sun will also be a fancied contender for the big race, but Martin could be the man to follow as he attempts to complete a hat-trick.

Nina Carberry is on the Gordon Elliott-trained Esthiaal while Dunshaughlin handler Eddie Lynam has two runners entered, both are outsiders.

The valuable €80,00 contest over two miles, off at 6.50pm live on RTE2.
