Good weekend for michael mulvany

It was a good weekend for Meath trainer Michael Mulvany (pictured), who is based close to Navan. He was on mark at Dundalk on Friday night on the flat and on Saturday at Fairyhouse over the jumps with Tom Dooley and Rightdownthemiddle respectively.

Rightdownthemiddle completed a double at Fairyhouse for jockey Luke Dempsey (33/1 and 9/2) and he got a late run out of Michael Mulvany's 9/2 charge to win by a neck.

'I thought he hadn't got there for a moment. He's a very honest little horse, and we've had to wait a while to get the win,' said the trainer.

At Dundalk on Friday night the trainer was also smiling when Tom Dooley kept his head up and surged home in front of the field in a handicap at 20/1 over the seven furlongs of a well-contested race.

Tom Dooley is owned by the trainer's father and was winning after a gap of some seven months  following a victory at Gowran park last June.

Other local trainers on the mark at Dundalk on Friday night included Gordon Elliott and Tom McCourt while at Fairyhouse yesterday there was yet another winner for young Ardcath jockey Ger Fox.

The big race at Fairyhouse, the BobbyJo Chase was won by the Elliott-trained Roi Du Mee which could now head for the Aintree National at Liverpool. Elliott won that race in 2007 with Silver Birch.
