Meath sportsperson of the year is devin toner

Devin Toner took home the 2014 Meath Sportsperson of the Year award following the annual awards ceremony at the Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim on Thursday night.

The Moynalvey man was nominated as the monthly winner for February and was a popular recipient of the award as he received a standing ovation from over 300 guests at the annual presentations.

 “I'm delighted to win this award, it's great to get recognition from your home county, it actually means the world to me,” he commented.

“I've always said I'm a very proud Meath man and to get this award, it's fantastic,” he added.

The Young Sportsperson of the Year Award went to Trim athlete Harry Purcell.

This was the eighth year of the awards and they were compered once again by RTE’s Evanne Ni Chuilinn who proved to be a popular choice and a big hit once again with the audience and the recipients.

Those in the hat for the top award included two ladies, Aileen Donnelly and Sara Treacy along with Colin Keane, last year's winner Barry Geraghty, Paul Carberry, Gordon Elliott, Tony Martin, Noel Meade, Jeff Mahon, Harry Purcell, Eddie Lynam, Damien McGrane, James Scully, Philip McNally, Jack Regan and Niall McKeigue.
