Martins ted veale favourite for curragh feature

Top Meath trainer Tony Martin will be bidding to foil the challenge of British-based trainer Brian Ellison who will attempt to land the Irish Cesarewitch for the second consecutive year when he saddles both Zaidiyn and Zeus Magic in the €100,000 contest at the Curragh on Sunday.

However, Martin will be bidding to plunder the English equivalent at Newmarket today when he saddles the John Breslin-owned Quick Jack in the two-mile, two-furlong event.

Quick Jack won the amateur handicap at the opening day of the Galway Festival last July and will be one of the main contenders for today's race.

Tomorrow, Martin will have John Breslin's Ted Veale flying the Meath flag in the big race while the strong overseas-trained challenge also includes Blue Surf and Hassle.

The remainder of the Irish challenge features the Aidan O’Brien-trained Marchese Marconi,  runner up in last year’s race, while he also has El Salvador among the 21 entries.

The Dermot Weld-trained pair of Hidden Universe and Grecian Tiger, Clondaw Warrior trained by Willie Mullins and Eye of the Tiger trained by Johnny Murtagh are other notable runners.

Jeanne Girl, Run The Red Light and Together Forever feature among the 10 runners in the Staffordstown Stud Stakes while Viztoria, Russian Soul and Ruwaiyan trained in Britain by James Tate catch the eye among the 11 entries in the Go Racing in Kildare Waterford Testimonial Stakes.

Certerach, Inis Meain, Tarana and Second Step trained by Luca Cumani in Britain are among the 17 entries in the Listed Finale Stakes

The first race is at 1.35pm. Adult Admission: €15, Under-25s and Seniors: €8 euros. Under 16s Free.
