Meath 2-8 Armagh 0-13

Cian Ward in action for Meath tonight at Pairc Tailteann before he limped out of the game 12 minutes from time.

Meath remain unbeaten under lights at Pairc Tailteann in 2010 following tonight's spirited NFL Div 2 performance against Armagh.

Spirit and determination were key elements in this victory which saw the return to action of Anthony Moyles late in the second-half at a time when Armagh had clawed their way back to parity (2-6 to 0-12).

Opportunist goals in each half helped Meath to maximum points on the opening night of the league.

Stephen Bray grabbed the first after only three minutes when he finished a low cross to open Meath's account.

The hosts enjoyed a good first-half and took a 1-6 to 0-6 lead to the dressing room with Graham Reilly, David Bray, Chris O'Connor, Jamie Queeney, Stephen Bray and Cian ward splitting the posts.

Queeney found the net again only 17 seconds after the resumption, but that was Meath's last score until David Bray pointed a free 25 minutes later to restore his side's advantage (2-7 to 0-12).

The Navan O'Mahonys player was on the mark again before the end which sent the majority of the estimated 3,000 crowd home fairly happy.

Meath supporters are hard to please at the best of times.

Next up for manager Eamonn O'Brien is a trip to Newry next Saturday night to play Down who open their campaign tomorrow against Kildare in Newbridge.

Im writing in discust after Sat nights game meath v armagh. As an armagh supporter who has bought season tickets my child of 11 holds one too and we travelled to this match, gave money to all the charties around the ground, bought your half time draw tickets, cheered for our team and as you say meath supporters are hard to please didnt like this and lobbed a full bottle at my daughter. which missed her thankfully by inches. These are thugs that are admitted to your grounds in meath. A steward was standing beside these thugs when this occurred and turned a blind eye. The had spat at my child called her names each time she turned round. Im so discusted with this incident im also writing to croke park the meath county board etc., this ground in my opinion will always be hateful. If it was the fear of losing this match the thugs responsibile were obviousley not following this game closely or they would of known the referee was never going to let this happen. They have spoiled the nice family gaa in my books and I will be requesting my money back on my season tickets as i am highly unlikely to be travelling to any away games again and exposing my child to in my own words thugs, tramps etc.,. and that also goes for the other meath spectators who sat by watched and laughed when this incident occurred. I REALLY WOULD LIKE THIS PRINTED IN YOUR NEWSPAPER TO LET THE PEOPLE OF MEATH KNOW WHAT THEY ARE REARING IF THEY EVEN HAVE THE BACKBONE TO CARE.
