Notorious the one for Elliott

It was a race he hadn't won, until today, but Gordon Elliott rectified that statistic with his first victory in the prestigious Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park where Jack Kennedy partnered Monbeg Notorious to victory.

With six runners in the race,  Elliott filled four of the first six places with Monbeg Notorious winning from the Noel Meade-trained Wounded Warrior with Elliott's Space Cadet- owned by Chris Jones - in third place.

The win increases Elliott's lead at the top of the table in the race for the National Hunt trainers' title with Willie Mullins sitting in behind in second place.

"It's great when it works out. It's great for Jack, for me, Gigginstown (owner) and for the horse. I think we've won nearly all the big staying chases in Ireland now," stated the trainer.

Elliott completed a double on the day when Edene D'arc landed the concluding bumper under jockey Declan Lavery and at 14/1 got the better of the Noel Meade-trained favourite Young Ted with Nina Carberry on board.

Recently-crowned Meath Sportsperson of the year Robbie Power was also in the winners' enclosure when he was on the mark with
Wings Like Arion in a handicap hurdle.
