Ger Lyons and Colin Keane at Navan today

Colin Keane leads again 82-81

The penalty shoot-out nature of the race for the 2017 flat jockeys' title continued today at Navan where Colin Keane forged one ahead again of defending champion Pat Smullen.

Keane partnred the Ger Lyons-trained Gobi Desert to vctory in the Legacy Stakes at Navan with a late surge inside the final furlong.

For Ger Lyons it was a 60th winner of the season and puts the KIltale-based handler in a strong second position ahead of Jim Bolger who is on 54 winners.

 Smullen drew level with Keane on 81 winners with a good win on Imaging at Limerick yesterday, but Keane is now ahead again 82-81.

The next flat racing action is at Gowran Park on Wednesday.
