McDonogh keeps Meath flag flying at Galway

Moynalty jockey Declan McDonogh kept the Meath flag flying at Galway yesterday when he teamed up with trainer Andrew Slattry for another winner, this time it was Planchart won the Listed Corrib Fillies Stakes ahead of 5/2 favourite Rayisa in a seven-furlong contest.

Slattery and McDonogh had also landed the feature event on Tuesday night when Creggs Pipes took the Colm Quinn BMW Mile Handicap.

There was no luck for Meath trainers in the big race yesterday, the Galway Hurdle, with Tony Martin's duo of Pyromaniac and last year's winner Quick Jack finishing seventh and eighth respectively.

The attendance yesterday was down on 2015 but the Tote figures were up to €1,420,737, an increase of over €283,000 on 2015.

The bookmakers figures were down with €1,626,663 bet this year compared to €1,920,224 12 months ago.
