Four winners for Jason Maguire at Haydock

Kilmessan jockey Jason Maguire was the man to follow at Haydock on Saturday where he partnered four winners, all for trainer Donald McCain junior. Cheltenham prospect Cinders And Ashes shaped up for the festival with an impressive victory in a novices hurdle while Our Mick won a novice chase. Reindeer Dippin completed the treble when despite top weight in a handicap hurdle and the four-timer came up when Real Milan justified favouritism in a novice hurdle. Maguire was one of the nominees at last week's annual Meath Chronicle / Cusack Hotel Group sports awards, but was unable to attend the function as he was in action at Ludlow that day where he was also in the winners' enclosure. The Kilmessan man was represented by his parents, Michael and Ann, at last Thursday night's awards gala. Trainer Noel Meade was on the mark at Naas on Saturday when the locally-owned Medical Card, the outsider of five in a grade two novice chase, won impressively from the front for Davy Condon who was deputising for the injured Paul Carberry who is recovering from a shoulder injury. Carberry sustained the injury last week on a skiing break and will now be in a race against time to be fit for Cheltenham. Carberry could have a strong book of rides at Cheltenham - Ipsos Du Berlais, Dylan Ross and Mount Benbulben. Ashbourne jockey Andrew Lynch, a recipient of a monthly award at last Thursday night's annual presentations will be hoping that Voler La Vedette runs in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday. Voler La Vedette is not a confirmed runner against Hurricane Fly and a decision will be made later this week, but rain would be a big help although the Galmoy Hurdle at Gowran on Thursday is also an option. Lynch could also partner Jack The Bus for Stamullen trainer in the Thyestes Chase at Gowran this week. Navan jockey Andrew Thornton, who mixes jumping and flat, was on the mark at Dundalk on Friday night, his first winner at the track, when steering 14/1 chance Enigma Code to win for trainer James McAuley who is also based near Stamullen. The win was McAuley's first since Time Travel won at Wolverhampton last March.
