Eddie Maguire retains title

Meath man Eddie Maguire retained his title at last week's Italian Open for blind and visually impaired golfers at the Barlassina Golf Club in Milan, a course that extended to over 7,000 yards with over 100 bunkers.

Birdies and pars were difficult to achieve and there was a premium on accuracy and putting.

The endgame was played out between holder Eddie Maguire and Italy's Mirko Ghiggerri.

In the event Maguire became the first player to retain the title.

The former Walterstown footballer admitted that he 'fell over the winning line' and that it was 'the other players mistakes rather than any brilliance from me' that proved the difference in the end.

The Order of Merit Title
Next up for is the conclusion to the order of merit race.

This is contested over nine events in Ireland, and the final event is next week on Thursday 12th November at Royal County Dublin.

It is expected to be a shoot out between Maguire 169pts, Willem Roode (South African Open champion) 167 pts and 19-year-old Patrick Morgan junior,165pts,who featured on BBC TV,after his exploits at the British Open.

It will be fingers crossed for the Navan resident,as he tees it up on Thursday.
