Navan Golf Club out of bounds

There was bad news for members and staff at Navan Golf Club this week after it emerged that the popular local facility will close down at the end of the current golfing year.

Speaking to the Meath Chronicle this morning Navan Golf Club captain Liam Buggy confirmed that the news was delivered this week and that it came as a major shock.

'We were informed this week that the club will cease to trade at the end of the current golfing year,' stated the club captain, who is a former Navan O'Mahonys footballer.

However, he was not in a position to provide any more information and he was unwilling to speculate on any matter although he was adamant that the decision appears to be final. He repeated that he was 'shocked' by the news.

The golf club at Navan is part of the racecourse complex and is located outside the town on the Kingscourt Road.

The complex is operated by Horse Racing Ireland (HRI).

It is understood, although this is unconfirmed at the moment, that HRI have taken this decision as part of a package aimed at saving money.

It is also believed that up to three people are employed full-time as part of the Navan Golf Club portion of the operation at the venue.

Horseracing is next scheduled for Navan on Sunday 24th November.
