Killyon produce sizzling display to secure victory

Ahead by 4-9 to 0-15 early in the second-half Killyon had to battled hard to get the better of Kilmessan in the SHC at a sun-splashed Kildalkey this evening.

This was a close encounter right to the end with both sides producing a sizzling, hugely entertaining spectacle on a tropical-like evening but in the end Killyon won by 4-15 to 2-18.

Killyon looked comfortably when they led 3-8 to 0-12 at the interval but Kilmessan fought back and the sides were level with only three minutes to go. However late points from Mikie Mullen , Ger Foley and Paddy Coyne helped to give Killyon a crucial edge in those tense closing minutes.

Kilmessan's cause wasn't helped by the dismissal of their main free-taker Darren Reilly after 24 minutes following an off-the-ball incident.

Mullen finished with 1-6 while Calvin Ryan also made a huge contribution to Killyon's tally with 2-2. Coyne was their other goal-scorer.

Kilmessan worked hard to get back into the game with Shane Brennan and Kevin Keena getting the goals for them while Steven Clynch took over the free-taking duties with very considerable success. He finished with eight points all but one from placed balls.

Killyon's fitness showed in the closing minutes as they closed out the game to win.
