Meath's Colin Hawdon in action against Westmeath today.

Meath submerge Lake County in avalanche of scores

There was a little piece of history made at Cusack Park, Mullingar today as Meath recorded their first victory in the re-structured Leinster MFC defeating Westmeath 2-20 to 2-7.

This was a brilliant display by the Royal County side particularly in the second-half when their power-packed performance swept the home team aside.

Meath led 1-8 to 0-7 at the interval with Cian McBride grabbing the goal when he diverted home a Luke Mitchell cross. In the second-half Luke Kelly fisted the ball to the net to help put a seal on this impressive performance from Joe Treanor's side.

All six of Meath's starting forwards scored points with David Bell and Bryan McCormack each slotting over four apiece. The Meath midfield of Adam Reilly and McBride were very impressive but this was a super overall team display from the winners.

Westmeath scored two late goals from Ben McGauren, from a penalty, while Jack Torpey also netted but there was no denying the far superior Meath side.
