Meath players in the huddle before the start of today's game against Waterford

No joy for Meath in camogie opener

Meath opened their National Camogie League Div 1 campaign with a difficult away trip to Waterford today where they found the going too demanding as the hosts prevailed by 1-12 to 0-6.

Meath trailed by 0-2 to 1-9 at the interval with Caroline Quinn and Aoife Maguire on target for the 2017 All-Ireland intermediate champions who were without a number of players from that championship-winning squad.

Lorraine Bray scored the Waterford goal close to the interval.

Waterford were ahead by 1-12 to 0-4 midway through the second-half and saw out the remainder without too much difficulty.

Meath's second-half points arrived from Aine McInerney, Aoife Maguire, Caroline Quinn and Cheyanne O'Brien.
