Meath supporters in Croke Park on Sunday

Limerick only venue available for replay

Meath and Cork will travel to the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick for the All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie final replay on Sunday 1st October, but the choice of venue has annoyed many supporters

The most obvious choice would have been O'Moore Park in Portlaoise as it would be convenient from a travel perspective.

A referee will be appointed next week.

Social media provided an outlet for some irate supporters - see comments below.

The Meath Chronicle contacted the Camogie Association about the matter and it appears that great efforts were made to source a venue that would have been more palatable.

A spokesperson for the Camogie Association commented:

"The replay was set for the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick having exhausted several other potential venues of a suitable standard for an All-Ireland final," stated the spokesperson.
"Those venues that were sought included Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford.

"As a result of these venues being unavailable due to other GAA fixtures already being scheduled for them, the Gaelic Grounds was decided upon as the most suitable venue available for this fixture," added the spokesperson.

COMMENTS YESTERDAY ABOUT VENUE
Sandra Lynch-Foley:
What a terrible decision .. neutral?? Nx door to Cork and half the country away from Meath.. terribly unfair to our Meath girls but they know all about unfairness unfortunately after last wks "sham" ref !!! Best of luck girls

Tracy DunneBrady: This is an unfair decision once again, it reminds me of the ref blowing the whistle as Meath fired a point ! Even Thurles would have been half way for both teams. I really hope the Meath team use this decision as a choice to annihilate Cork from the first puck

Kevin Mynes: Best of luck to Meath in this match. A very poor call by the GAA. Does not surprise me considering Dublin had to play Tipp in Thurles considering that was also supposed to be a neutral venue as well.

Ciarán Kelly: They were robbed, and a 3 week gap to the replay is absolute farcical. Best of luck to them in the replay!

Brian Fox: And co board didn't object?

Emma Mangan: What a joke. Really hope the same number of supporters make it to the replay!!!!

Gary Carpenter: Disgrace, wouldn't do it to Dublin. Gaa are a joke!!

Noel Keogh: That's a joke a bit like the Ref in the first game but Best of luck to the Meath girls.

Darren Weldon: Who makes these decisions?

Michael Hughes: Memories of Christy Ring final come flooding . We have to do everything twice and win against incompetent officials too.

Mag Coogan: Come on the royalers. Dissapointed its not in Croker but a pitch is a pitch.

Tom Murray: Ridiculous venue for Meath supporters.

James Walsh: County board stand up and

Regina Doherty: Co Board not doing its job again
