O'Mahonys qualify and Carnaross finish with 12

Navan O'Mahonys booked their place in the knock-out phase of the SFC with a merited win over rivals Seneschalstown by 3-14 to 0-9 at Pairc Tailteann this evening.

The opening exchanges were tight and O'Mahonys took a 0-7 to 0-5 lead to the dressing room, but an early second-half goal for O'mahonys from Stephen Bray and a red card for Seneschalstown goalkeeper David Lyons were turning points.

Seneschalstown sent Robert Ruddy on between the posts, but had to withdraw John Smith from midfield and the handicap of playing with 14 men proved too cumbersome as O'Mahonys took control.

Seneschalstown also lost Bryan Clarke to a first-half injury.

Navan O'Mahonys scorers –  Dylan Regan 2-1, Ruairi O Coileain 0-6 four frees, Shane Gillespie 0-3 one free, Stephen Bray 1-1, Paul Whelehan 0-1, Jake Regan 0-1.

Seneschalstown scorers - Brian Maguire 0-1, Brian Sheridan 0-5 three frees, Joe Sheridan 0-3 one '45'

Carnaross won the curtainraiser JFC quarter-final at Páirc Tailteann when they proved too resilient for Drumconrath with a 0-14 to 0-8 victory.

The game was marred by a lengthy melee in the final minute that saw players and officials from each side involved along the sideline and on the pitch.

At the time Carnaross had 14 men after an earlier dismissal (two yellows), but they collected two more red cards and Drumconrath got one from referee Martin Griffin.
