McKeever point secures win for Simonstown

Padraig McKeever fired over an injury time point as Simonstown began the defence of their SFC crown with a 1-16 to 2-12 victory over St Colmcille's at Pairc Tailteann this evening.

The reigning champions led most of the way in a high-quality contest despite making a slow start when they conceded a James Conlon goal after just four minutes.

The Gaels responded to that setback to lead 1-10 to 1-7 at the interval with Conor Sheridan finishing off a fine move for their only goal of the game around the 20th minute mark.

McKeever was in fine scoring form throughout and he ended up with six points while Mark McCabe and Sean Tobin grabbed some fine scores for the winners also.

Trailing by three points as the game drew to a close St Colmcille's looked to have earned a draw for themselves when substitute Ruairi O'Grady touched a Ben Brennan centre to the net.

However Simonstown moved the ball upfield and McKeever courageously fired the ball between the posts from distance to score the winning point and secure victory for his team.
