Broadway success for Grease at Meath GAA fundraiser

Meath GAA stars with Donal Keogan in the lead role and the likes of Mickey Burke, Mickey Newman, Donnacha Tobin and Paddy Gilsenan topped the poll at the inaugural Broadway fundraiser at a rocking Donaghmore / Ashbourne clubshouse on Saturday night.

The female factor was also significant as the Royal County's adaptation of Grease was helped over the line by the talented quintet of Ailbhe McHugh, Blathnaid Keogh, Hannah Heskin, Aideen Guy and Niamh Lister.

The performance drew gushing admiration from the judges with Mary Duff commenting about Donal Keogan 'If only I was 30 years younger........' while Alisha McNally, who co-ordinated all the groups, was also generous in her comments.

Meath selector Gerry McEntee was also impressed and the performance picked up maximum points from the judges - a feat also achieved by Blues Brothers, but it was the audience vote that clinched the victory.

Meath GAA Co Board may have struck gold with this hugely entertaining fundraiser - a real type of variety show in which neither age of ability was a factor as all seven acts kept the audience entertained.

Dudley Farrell was the MC and the evening started with 'two old ladies telling jokes' before 'Rory' delieverd his brand of humour - possibly a little out of place with the theme of what followed?
