Battersby on the mend

Despite suffering cardiac arrest during his side's Meath IFC clash with Drumbaragh just two weeks ago Curraha's Danny Battersby is clearly on the mend and hasn't lost his sense of humour.

Midway through the second-half of the IFC game in Kilberry on Sunday 7th August Danny took ill and needed emergency assistance to revive him on the pitch.

Team mates Liam Hogan and Neil Shortall as well as Drumbaragh's Paul McManus were quick to realise there was a serious incident and their quick reactions and those of the Wolfe Tones officials to provide a defibrillator undoubtedly saved Danny's life.

Those heroics were not lost on the 21-year-old Curraha player who joked about needing a new pair of predator boots for next season.

Danny released a statement on Facebook yesterday.

Dear Facebook,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your well wishes!!
I am doing very well and I am looking to make a full recovery! As I sit here listening to Ed Sheeran I feel normal again, but unfortunately I am far from it. They say music is the last thing to leave your soul and I agree. Every morning I wake up I could not tell you my name, what happened to me or where I am, but I could sing you any Ed Sheeran song!! I don't remember what happened to me, I probably never will. But I do know I am very lucky to be alive, purely due to the quick reaction of teammates such as Liam Hoganand Neil Shortall both trained professionals who saved me in my time of need!! along with our physio, the lads from drumbaragh and a supporter who had lifesaving equipment in his car. I am on the road to recovery even though it is a long one. Unfortunately they want to put in a defibralator in me which would end my footballing career, so only one question remains to me at the moment. Does anyone know where to get a pair of old predator manias for next season? Unfortunately I was cut out of my boots last weekend!!
Peace and Love
