Skryne show battling qualities to defeat Ballinlough

Skryne showed their battling qualities to carve out a deserved 2-9 to 1-10 victory over a tenacious Ballinlough side in the SFC at Trim today.
Going into the closing stages of normal time Skryne trailed by two points. However they hit back with a series of points from Paddy O'Rourke,  Eoin Smyth (two) and Mark Battersby to seal victory.
This was as uncompromising a contest as anyone is likely to see in the SFC this year with the game full of meaty challenges.
Ballinlough, who were narrowly edged out by Blackhall the previous week, made the worst of starts conceding an early Skryne goal scored by Brian Davis.
However Ballinlough hit back to lead 0-6 to 1-2 at the break producing some highly entertaining football along the way.
Battersby neatly slotted to the net for Skryne’s second goal soon after the break but Ballinlough kept themselves in the hunt when, on 47 minutes, Ronan McGuinness made the most of a defensive mistake and set up Mark McCullen who fired home from close range.
That goal, added to points from Colm Mallen and Kevin Devine, helped Ballinlough go in front but Skryne, with Harry Rooney outstanding, were not to be denied as they conjured up the late points to make it two wins from three outings.
In Pairc Tailteann Na Fianna picked up their second victory in the SFC when they inflicted a hefty 3-15 to 0-15 defeat against struggling Wolfe Tones who are still seeking that winning touch.
