Plenty to ponder at Drumconrath

Meath Hill manager Tony Kearney may have been trying to figure out how his team didn't win this crucial JFC encounter against nearby rivals Kilmainhamwood at Drumconrath tonight as the game finished in a draw, 0-13 to 1-10.

The simple answer is that his players kicked too many wides - nine in a first-half that they totally dominated and that had the 'Wood in serious trouble at that stage.

The Hill took a well-deserved 0-8 to 0-2 lead to the dressing room at half-time and were as good as home and hosed.

Kearney may also have been wondering why referee Dessie Smyth didn't issue a card other than yellow to Kilmainhamwood's Michael Shankey midway through the second-half?

The probable answer to that one is the St Ultan's clubman probably didn't see the incident clearly?

Combine the two 'may have beens' and add in a little bit of Kilmainhamwood heart and spirit along with some fierce naive Meath Hill defending in the closing stages and all the questions are answered.

A rousing encounter with as much passion behind the walls amongst the supporters as was on the pitch and it all made for a spectacle that will keep those who were there talking for a few days.

The picture will be a lot clearer after next weekend when Kilmainhamwood tackle Dunsany and Meath Hill face Dunshaughlin.

Tonight Stephen Kiernan was the hero for the 'Wood with a late equalising point, but it was Paddy Carolan's goal at the start of the second-half that got the 'Wood going.

Meath Hill felt it should have been a free-out as he knocked the ball out of the goalkeeper's hands!

However, more costly for Meath Hill was all those wides - it finished at 12.
