Nominations sought for new Meath manager

Twelve days since Mick O’Dowd stepped down as manager of the Meath senior football team nomination forms for his replacement have today been sent out to the clubs with a closing date of Friday 29th July at 5pm for all submissions.
O’Dowd resigned his position after four years in charge following the disappointing loss to Derry in the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers 2A in Owenbeg on Saturday 9th July and since then speculation has been rife that Andy McEntee is favourite to take on the role.
A former Meath minor manager who led the county to the 2012 All-Ireland MFC final, McEntee guided Dublin champions Ballyboden St Enda’s to the All-Ireland Club SFC crown this year. The Nobber man, who also played with Dunboyne, was in charge of Donaghmore/Ashbourne when they won the IFC in 2007.
Several other high profile names have also been thrown into the rumour mill with O’Mahonys coach Davy Nelson, Duleek/Bellewstown manager Graham Geraghty, Simonstown’s Colm O’Rourke, Dunshaughlin boss Anthony Moyles and Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s current bainesteoir Sean Kelly joining such high profile figures from outside the county as James Horan, Jim McGuinness, Pat Spillane, Pete McGrath and John Evans.
It is expected that nominated candidates will be called for interview in the week following the close of nominations and that could mean a name would be proposed to the Executive Committee before the next Co Board meeting which could be scheduled for Wednesday 3rd August or Monday 8th August.
