Lenihan double boosts Dunboyne

Two goals from Meath star Donal Lenihan proved to be the decisive scores as Dunboyne secured their first A FL Div 1 win of the year with a resounding 2-8 to 0-8 victory over hosts Dunshaughlin today.
Off the back of an opening round draw with Summerhill Dunboyne got off to a flier with Lenihan netting in the sixth and ninth minutes and with Michael Dunne ppsting three points in the opening period the visitors opened a 2-6 to 0-5 interval lead.
The loss of leading scorer Cathal O’Dwyer to injury early in the second-half further hampered Dunshaughlin, but Dunboyne struggled to assert their authority as they kicked several wides and allowed Dunshaughlin stay in the game.
Scoring dried up in the second-half as Dunboyne squandered chance after chance and in the closing stages they were thankful to their goalkeeper Andy Markey who pulled off a fine save and to the woodwork as they held on to condemn defending A FL Div 1 champions Dunshaughlin to their first defeat.
