Female footballers facing busy weekend

Meath will get their Leinster Minor Ladies Football Championship campaign underway against Wicklow on Saturday.

They faced Wicklow twice last year, defeating them in May in the Leinster Minor C Final with Marion Farrelly (pictured) scooping the Player of the Match accolade on the day.

With a similar panel to last year, this year's team is ready to do battle in Div 1.

Farrelly has been named captain for 2016 with Dunboyne's Vikki Wall, who was a nominee for the Young Sportsperson of the Year last month, named as vice-captain.

Both olayers had terrific seasons in 2015 for both club and county and will be a force to be reckoned with in this year's championship.

NFL DIV 2
On Sunday, new manager Eoin Hennessy will take charge of the Meath senior ladies for the first time as they face Cavan at Ballinlough.

In last year's NFL the teams met in the final round and it was the Breffini side that won on a 1-13 to 0-4 scoreline.

However, fortunes for the Royals are changing slowly with the return to the panel of some players and others making their debut against Sligo last Sunday.

Meath will be aiming for promotion to Div 1 this year.
