Wexford win well in Navan

The outcome was predictable, but the scoreline failed to reflect the effort Meath made  in this Walsh Cup second round tie as Wexford won convincingly by 3-18 to 2-7 in the curtanraiser at Pairc Táilteann.

Meath trailed by five points (1-4 to 0-12) at the interval, but 10 minutes into that second-half were only three points adrift after two fine scores from james Toher.

However, a two-goal Wexford salvo, the first from a soft penalty, left the hosts with too much to do although they couldn’t be faulted on their effort and commitment.

Shane Brennan in the first-half and Ciaran Fitzsimons scored the goals for Meath who will play IT Carlow next Sunday in the third round.

'We can take a lot of positives from that game, we asked the players to raise their performance and they all did that, the players have got valuable game-time, but the scoreboard is a bit unfair on Meath’s contribution,' stated manager Martin Ennis.
