Mcgowans late goal gives meath stunning victory

Meath advanced to the last four of the All-Ireland u-21 B HC with a stunning late 2-15 to 1-17 victory over a fancied Kerry side at Trim on Saturday afternoon.

Kerry were late arriving at St Loman's Park, but were granted an extra 15 minutes grace to warm up and they benefited with a third minute goal giving them an early advantage.

With Jack Regan hitting three points Meath stayed in touch and were level at the break, 0-7 to 1-4. After the resumption the tight nature of the contest continued, but when Fergal Flattery netted with seven minutes to go it gave Meath some breathing room, 1-15 to 1-12.

However Kerry's response was swift, impressive and emphatic. They hit five points in quick succession to lead by two in injury-time, but Meath refused to give up and in the dying seconds Stefan Kelly's surging run saw him cut through the Kerry rearguard before he picked out Gavin McGowan and the Ratoath man applied the finishing touch to the net with a delicate lob to spark scenes of celebration in trim.
