No joy for royals in christy ring cup meltdown

There was no Christy Ring Cup joy at Trim today - at least as far as Meath were concerned.

The Royal County succumbed to yet another defeat (2-18 to 3-23) to Kildare - the third competitive setback this year - and now go tumbling out of the competition.

It was looking good for Meath at one stage in the opening half when they led by eight points playing with the aid of the breeze.

They were still in front at the break, 1-13 to 3-6, but Kildare came storming back to win. They were helped by the dismissal of Killyon's Keith Keoghan who picked up a second yellow on 57 minutes.

From then on the Meath challenge completely fell away as Kildare took full advantage of the extra man.

Jack Regan fired home 1-8 for the home side all of his points coming from poinits.

Jack Fagan also knocked the ball to the net in the second-half. However, Meath were tormented by Mark Delaney and Gerry Keegan who steadily added to Kildare's account with a stream of scores. Keegan ended up with 2-5.

Meath shot 11 wides in the opening half and that was also to prove costly. On this occasion they can have few complaints as the visitors racked up another win over the Royals and progress to the last four.
