Castletown grind out victory over depleted st ultans

Gritty Castletown shrugged off some indifferent league form to pick up a fully deserved victory over St Ultan's in the IFC at Simonstown tonight.

Donal Curtis's side, who have struggled to pick up wins in the A FL, played only in patches in the opening half and at the interval they were behind 0-4 to 0-7 after trailing 0-1 to 0-7 at one stage.

Early in the second-half the complexion of the game changed dramatically when in the space of a minute referee Martin Griffin sent off St Ultan's players Ronan Breslin who was shown yellow and black cards and Declan Galligan (straight red).

From then on Castletown took control and reeled off a series of points, hauling themselves level on 0-8 apiece after 50 minutes before Robert Hoey and the impressive Kevin Ross tagged on further points to seal the win.

Ross ended up as his team's top scorer with five points while Mark Allen and Cian Rennicks shared the distinction of leading on the scoring front for St Ultan's with three points apiece.

St Ultan's had a fine opening 20 minutes or so but they will be concerned at the way Castletown got back into the game even before the two red cards were shown.
