Fines and bans handed out following brawl

Meath Co Board has this week handed out fines and suspensions to both Ballinlough and Blackhall Gaels following the brawl that marred their A FL Div 2 final clash at Páirc Táilteann on Sunday 7th December 2014.

Both clubs were fined a total of €700 each with a €200 fine applied arising from unauthorised pitch incursions by team officials and a further €500 imposed for failing to control their players during the melee that erupted before half-time.

Despite avoiding sanction on the day Blackhall Gaels selector Mark Crampton was handed an eight week ban as was Ballinlough attacker Ronan McGuinness who was involved in the fracas before half-time and was taken off at the interval.
Two other Ballinlough players, goalkeeper Keith McGuinness and substituite Derek Muldoon, received two games and eight week suspensions respectively for their part in the brawl which was extensively investigated by the Meath CCC.
Ballinlough’s Lorcan Maguire and Benji Smith, who were both sent-off by referee Jason Plunkett following the initial brawl, received one game bans each, while Blackhall Gaels’ captain Tadhg Brosnan, who was sent-off on the advice of the linesman, won his appeal to the Meath Hearings Committee and had his red card rescinded on video evidence.
