Highscoring leinster mfl win for meath at ashbourne

Meath got their Leinster MFL campaign off to a winning start today with in a high-scoring encounter against Louth at Ashbourne to mark a first game in charge at this level for Denis O'Shea and his selectors Joe Sheridan, Ian Kearney and TP Toolan.

The game produced 36 scores and eight goals with Meath taking the laurels on a 5-17 to 3-11 scoreline against their neighbours from the Wee County.

Meath were ahead by 3-8 to 1-4 at the interval as Ben Hoey (pictured), Daire Lynch and Padraig McGowan found the net.

Early in the second-half Lynch added a fourth goal (see video clip) and that gave Meath a substantial 4-11 to 1-5 advantage, but Louth displayed great battling qualities and kept the pressure on the Royals.

However, substitute Ross Ryan found the net for Meath in the closing stages to ease the pressure.

Meath featured twins Ross and Ronan Ryan while Louth also had twins - James and Alan Carragher, originally from the Syddan area.

Meath will play Longford away next week while Louth will host Tipperary.
