St michaels pass big test in leinster showdown

St Michael's, Loreto added another title to their growing list of triumphs when they won the Leinster PP Schools Senior B football final at St Loman's Park, Mullingar this afternoon with Tara Berigan netting a hat-trick of goals.

The Navan school claimed an All-Ireland title last year and they continued on their winning ways in this encounter winning by 5-7 to 1-9 in the wind and driving rain.

St Michael's had the advantage of the blustery conditions in the opening half and at the break they led by 2-6 to 0-3 with the help of goals from Lauryn Grier and Berigan.

Early in the second-half Rochfortbridge reduced the deficit to three points however, two further goals from the in-form Berigan and one from Molly Byrne put paid to any Rochfortbridge revival.

Loreto were awarded a penalty in the second-half when Kelsey Nesbit was fouled. Stacey Grimes sent the ball over the bar and bring her total for the day to five points.

Afterwards captain Grimes thanked a number of people including coach Michelle Delaney for their contribution to the success.
