Plenty of good football at primary schools finals
The second day of the Meath Primary Schools' Finals for 2014 were played in a welter of excitement at Pairc Tailteann in Navan today with seven titles on the line and the action throwing in at 9.30.
The girls from St Declan's NS, Ashbourne took the Div 1 Shield title with a merited 4-6 to 0-3 victory against Whitecross in what was a very exciting game, especially in the opening half with Whitecross ahead by 0-2 to 0-1 after 20 minutes.
Yellow Furze won the opening game when they took the Girls Div 3 final with a 5-2 to 1-4 victory against Skryne who had Amy O'Dowd (daughter of Meath senior football manager Mick O'Dowd) in their starting line up.
Amy scored a point, but the Yellow Furze girls were too strong on this occasion.
There was better luck for Skryne in the Boys Div 3 final as they won by a convincing 6-11 to 1-5 against neighbours Kilmessan.
Baconstown took the honours in the Girls Div 4 final with a 5-8 to 3-0 victory against Wilkinstown who also featured in the Boys Div 4 final.
In that decider, Boyerstown were best with a 8-8 to 4-6 victory against Wilkinstown - nine of the the goals were scored in a first-half that was played at an electric pace.
Rathmore celebrated their first final appearance in the Girls Div 5 decider - the first time the school could field an all-girls team - and they defeated Newtown by 6-4 to 0-2.
Dunboyne Senior Primary won the Boys Div 1 final with a 1-11 to 3-4 victory against Ratoath under the lights and after extra-time.
