Dunderry claim the ihc mick leonard cup

Dunderry returned to the senior grade of hurling for 2015 this afternoon when they claimed the IHC title with a 2-9 to 1-9 victory over Kilskyre in what was a tough and uncompromising encounter.

Dunderry were ahead by 2-3 to 1-4 at the interval and although they were overhauled briefly in the second-half, they found enough in the final 10 minutes to claim the title with four pointed frees from david Gilkeson.

Defeat was harsh on a battling Kilskyre side that had a number of players in their starting 15 from the previous week's Ballinlough IFC final winning team against Ballinabrackey.

The opening half was well contested with Dunderry shading the exchanges as they established a 2-3 to 1-4 interval advantage with goals from Alex Walsh in the 10th minute and Johnny Moran in the 20th minute.

Kevin Dowd, Jordan Martin and Conor Farrell split the Kilskyre posts, but Kilskyre replied from four Tom Shine points (three frees) and a Ronan McGuinness goal.

Kilskyre gradually closed the gap in the second-half, although they also wasted some glorious chances as they finished with a tally of nine wides and fluffed a couple of goal opportunities also.
