Sheppard guides tones to late victory

Conor Sheppard netted a late, spectacular goal to help Wolfe Tones win the Junior B FC by 1-11 to 1-10 at Pairc Tailteann tonight.

Before a big crowd Wolfe Tones and Seneschalstown played out a close encounter with neither side managing to build up a big lead.

Seneschalstown's goal could be attrbuted to Peter Watters. His shot rebounded off the bar before the ball deflected off a defender and into the net.

At the interval the Yellow Furze side led 1-5 to 0-7.

They continued to stay in front until on the closing stages when Sheppard struck with a shot from 35 metres that flew into the top corner.

Seneschalstown had chances to snatch an equaliser in injury time but they spurned opportunities with Gordon Ward's side holding out for a win.

In the curtain-raiser to tonight's double header at Pairc Tailteann St Pat's defeated Kildalkey 2-9 to 0-13 to win the JHC.

St Pat's won the game in dramatic fashion with Kildalkey ahead going into injury time only for Neil O'Flaherty to score a goal and help the Stamullen side steal victory.
