Killyon land the silverware at Kildalkey

Killyon maintained their recent good form when they captured the first piece of silverware on offer for 2014 by winning the Brendan Davis Cup with a 0-14 to 0-9 victory over Trim at Kildalkey this evening.

This was an excellent game with plenty of skill, determination and character on display throughout the hour.

As hosts, Kildalkey had the pitch in pristine condition and Trim and Killyon served up a thriller as they battled for the trophy presented by the Davis family in memory of a stalwart of his club and of Meath Hurling Board.

Before the presentation Donal Davis, son of the late Brendan Davis, congratulated the teams on an excellent final and thanked all concerned for the efforts with the competition.

Killyon were worthy winners on a night when they worked hard and forced Trim in errors, but the Trim players can also take something from the game and use it to their advantage when they return to SHC action where they are unbeaten.

Killyon were ahead at half-time by 0-8 to 0-6 with a pressure-game demanding a high level of fitness and concentration.

The Killyon players worked hard in the second-half and although they hit a flat spot with about eight minutes remaining, Trim were unable to capitalise and missed some easy-looking chances.

On this occasion, they were punished and Killyon finished very much on the front foot in a final that featured first cousins (Conor Foley for Killyon and David Foley for Trim) in opposition.

DON'T MISS THIS!!!!
Watch the video clip closely and you will see a timely intervention by the legendary Kit Mitchell which will explain why the players in the photo are wearing two different types of jersey - only Kit Mitchell would get away with something like that and he never misses an opportunity for publicity.

See mext edition of Meath Chronicle for report, reaction and photograps - out Tuesday evening.
