Longwood edge out Rathmolyon in thrilling contest

Longwood picked up their first victory in the SHC when they defeated Rathmolyon 2-19 to 3-13 in tropical conditions at Trim this evening.

After losing to Kildalkey in the opening round Longwood needed a win here and they got it with the help of two excellent goals from Anthony Healy who also fired over seven points from frees.

Six players contributed to the Longwood tally including Mickey Burke who played the full game following his appearance against Kildare at Croke Park on Sunday.

The sides were level a number of times before Longwood eventually got the upper hand. At the interval Longwood led 1-11 to 2-7.

Rathmolyon once again depended a great deal on Mike Cole who ended up with 1-5 but they struggled to get consistent ball into the forwards.

Rathmolyon also finished the game with 14 players following the dismissal of Gary Cole just before the final whistle.
