Summer stroll for Meath

It was all to easy in the end as Meath recovered from a less than convincing start to defeat Carlow by 7-13 to 0-6 in their Leinster SFC quarter-final clash at Dr Cullen Park on Sunday.

Kilmainham's Mickey Newman marked his return from injury with a hat-trick of goals, including one from the penalty spot after Donal Keogan had been fouled. That goal added to strikes from Bryan McMahon and Stephen Bray gave Meath a 3-6 to 0-2 interval lead.

Andy Tormey added to Meath's goal tally before Newman completed his hat-trick. Dalton McDonagh contributed the seventh goal close to the end, by that stage the entertainment values had dipped and it was left to a pacy streaker to liven up the crowd.
