Gillespie out for year

Meath’s Leinster SFC hopes have been dealt another major blow with the news emerging this morning that inspirational midfielder Conor Gillespie will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury at training.
Manager Mick O’Dowd confirmed the news this morning and it is another disaster on top of the loss of Bryan Menton and Eoghan Harrington for Sunday’s Leinster SFC clash with Carlow and the absense of Davy Dalton, Cillian O’Sullivan and fellow cruciate knee ligament victim Eamon Wallace for the year.
Gillespie missed Meath’s entire NFL Div 2 campaign with a fractured shin picked up in the O’Byrne Cup loss to Kildare and on his return to action for Summerhill he damaged his shoulder in the SFC victory over Rathkenny. However it was expected that the giant midfielder would recover in time for the game against Carlow.
