Royals edge out Lilywhites in tense finish

Meath held their nerve in the closing stges of an exciting contest to narrowly defeat Kildare 1-11 to 1-10 in the Ladies NFL Div 2 encounter at Hawkfield near Newbridge today.

The sides were close throughout and with three minutes remaining they were level at 1-10 apiece.

With 68 minutes on the clock Geraldine Doherty stepped forward to pop over what proved to be the winning point.

The remaining minutes were tense with both sides having opportunitites to add to their account but there were no further scores.

This was a battling, spirited team display by Meath with Katie O'Brien particularly influential with 1-5.

Maire O'Shaughnessy and Emma Troy others to shine for the Royal County on a freezing day.

Meath led 1-4 to 0-5 at the interval with Maria Moolick scoring a fine individual goal for Kildare that helped to edge them in front in the second-half.

However, the Royals fought back with Doherty grabbing that late winner.
