Ward aiming to tune up the Tones

Gordon Ward has taken over as the new manager of the Wolfe Tones senior football team replacing Darren Fay.

A native of Kildare Ward has extensive experience in football management having taken charge of Blackhall Gaels, Dunshaughlin and St Michael's in the past before taking the reins at Meath Hill this year.

He guided Blackhall Gaels to the 2005 SFC final where they were defeated by Dunboyne.

At St Michael's he was joint manger with Tony Kearney and they reached an IFC semi-final where they were defeated by Carnaross.

Ward, who is employed in a full-time coaching role with Dublin Co Board, will be looking to regain the Keegan Cup for Wolfe Tones which they last win in 2006 when they edged out Navan O'Mahonys.

The club he played with in Kildare was St Kevin's the same outfit that Cavan footballer Seanie Johnstown controversially joined.

This year Wolfe Tones made it to the SFC semi-final however it proved to be a disappointing day for them as they lost out to Na Fianna 1-12 to 2-19.
