Rennicks makes it a family double

A piece of family history was made when Darragh Rennicks won the annual Five Mile road race staged by Bohermeen AC today.

The last time this race was won by a Bohermeen AC athlete was 1976 when Colm Rennicks, Darragh's father, finished ahead of the field.

Darragh Rennicks put in an impressive display today to win the race in 24 minutes 46 seconds ahead of second-placed Simon Ryan from Raheny Shamrocks AC.

The first home in the ladies event was Lorraine Manning, also with the Raheny club but who lives in Johnstown outside Navan.

The Rennicks Cup for the best men's team went to Dunboyne with the Bohermeen selection claiming the Fr Delaney Cup presented to the best performing ladies team.

Promising young Bohermeen athlete Kevin McGrath won the 5k event which was the curtain raiser to the Five Mile race.
