Meath open 2013 with a win

Meath made a winning start to 2013 with a 1-9 to 1-7 win over Longford at Ballymahon which sent the large contingent of travelling supporters home happy. Meath were ahead by 1-6 to 1-3 at the interval after Damien Carroll converted a penalty while the points came from Michael Newman and Jamie Queeney (two each), Peadar Byrne and Stephen Crosby. Caoimhin King returned to the Meath team as a second-half substitute for Donal Keogan who was injured in the opening half. Second-half points from Paddy Gilsenan, Queeney and Cormac Rowe kept Meath in front and on the way to a merited victory.
